Grading protects a card’s condition, proves it is authentic, and almost always raises what it is worth. The three big names are not the same. Here is the plain-English breakdown.

- Why: most recognized name, PSA cards usually sell for the most.
- Best for: reselling, chase cards, long-term holds.
- Trade-off: turnaround and pricing climb when demand spikes.

- Why: sharp slabs, detailed subgrades, friendlier pricing.
- Best for: modern singles and bigger submissions.
- Trade-off: resale premiums usually trail PSA.
Top Tier

BGS, home of the Black Label
- Why: strict grading and the coveted 10 Black Label.
- Best for: pristine, high-end cards chasing a perfect slab.
- Trade-off: fewer tens, and turnaround can be slow.
Should you grade at all?
Grade a card when the graded value clearly beats the raw value plus the grading fee. For most commons and near-mint bulk, raw is fine. For chase cards, first editions, and modern hits in gem-mint shape, grading pays off.
